Orkun İrsoy

Orkun İrsoy (they/he) is a PhD student in the Industrial Engineering Department at Boğaziçi University. They obtained their Master’s Degree from the Industrial Engineering Department of Boğaziçi University with the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yaman Barlas and also earned their BSc from the same department in 2019. Orkun is currently working as a teaching assistant in the department, operating in SESDYN (Socio-Economic System Dynamics Research Group) Lab along with the affiliation with the Dia-Pols project that focuses on opinion dynamics on social media. As a graduate assistant, he has been responsible for courses in the areas of object-oriented programming, operations research, agent-based simulation, and systems science and engineering. Despite being exposed to a wide range of application areas during graduate studies, Orkun is particularly passionate about addressing social issues from a complex systems perspective using simulation, data science, or network science. 


Esra Bilir

Esra Bilir graduated from Koc University School of Medicine in 2019 as a full-merit Anatolian Scholar. To promote women’s health socially, she completed the “Gender Studies Certificate Program” at The Center for Gender Studies at Koc University during medical school. Thus far, she gained extensive international experience in Turkey, France, the UK, Australia, the USA, and Germany. Dr Bilir received numerous grants for the majority of her professional activities. As an aspiring clinician-scientist, she has published several peer-reviewed articles! Dr Bilir also completed “Postgraduate Certificate in Epidemics and Ethical Global Health” at AUSN, USA. In recognition of her exceptional global service, she was recognized as an International Public Health Ambassador. In 2021, she attained master degree in Data Science. To strengthen her background to help women all over the world, she is pursuing MSc in Global Health. Her thesis focuses on cervical cancer elimination in Turkey. Currently, she is an OBGYN resident in Germany.


Can Adalı

Can Adalı is a PhD student at Biomedical Sciences and Engineering program at Koç University. He has a deep interest in the relationship between nutrition and chronic diseases, animal rights and climate justice. His PhD studies focus on systems modeling of climate impact of the healthcare industry from chronic diseases and food system perspective. He holds BSc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bilkent University, and MSc degree in Manufacturing Technologies from TU Dortmund University, and has 4 years of work experience at Daimler Trucks. To achieve the goal of ethical, climate friendly and environmentally sustainable Turkish universities and healthy university students, he co-founded ‘Univeg – Vegan Student Network’ which promotes veganism and a plant-based food system at university campuses.


Mehr-un-Nisa Usman

Mehr-un-Nisa Usman is currently a Master’s student of Global Health in Koç Üniversity’s Graduate School of Health Sciences. She obtained her BSc from Bilkent Üniversity in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2021. As a graduate student, her research interests include policy making for advancements in global health, women’s reproductive health and psychological well-being of refugees. Currently, she is working in Greenstar, a global NGO that aims to improve sexual and reproductive health of women in Pakistan. She has also worked as a Physiotherapy Assistant in Darulsukun, a home for differently abled children in Karachi, Pakistan. Her hobbies include reading, sketching and travelling.


Bahar Madran

Bahar Madran has been working as an infection control nurse at a private hospital for six years. Additionally, she is a member of “European Committee on Infection Control” study group. She is interested in doing research on antimicrobial resistance, infection control, public health, and healthcare workers. She has published some research articles on subjects the effects of clinical pathways to decrease antibiotic consumption, and health evaluation of healthcare workers in COVID-19 pandemic. Bahar’s academic background includes a MSc, School of Nursing at Dokuz Eylül University, and she is a PhD candidate at Koç University, School of Nursing, Public Health Department in Istanbul.


Sema Comez

Sema Çömez is a second-year Ph.D. student in Industrial Engineering and Operations Management at Koç University. She is broadly interested in the modeling of complex health system problems. Her research focuses on physiological modeling, health policy analysis in clinic and public domains, and investigating hybrid methods that combine the dynamic modeling, statistical data analysis, and optimization. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Istanbul Technical University and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Boğaziçi University. Her master’s thesis focused on modeling heart failure with System Dynamics methodology and exploring the dynamics of the vicious cycles and effective treatment methods in this disease. For this research, she was awarded the Lupina Young Researchers Award and the Dana Meadows Award – Honorable Mention in the 38th International Conference of the System Dynamics Society. She also had three years of work experience in Arçelik as Industrial Engineer. During this experience, she had a chance to work on many projects related to Industry 4.0, new facility investments, and Horizon 2020 with multidisciplinary and multinational teams.


Şanser Güz

Şanser Güz earned MSc. and BSc. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Boğaziçi University with a specialization in system dynamics and systems science. They studied Japanese Language and Humanities at the University of Tsukuba, Japan in 2017-2018. Since 2019, Şanser has been a member of SESDYN Research Laboratory at Boğaziçi University. They have joined Özge Karanfil’s research group in 2020 where they research on dynamics of clinical practice guideline formation processes in the context of cancer screening. Şanser is currently a MEXT Research Scholar at The University of Tokyo. Their research interests include sustainability transitions, modeling and simulation of physiological, socio-economic, and health systems using system dynamics methodology.



Basak Tavsanoglu

Başak is currently a master’s student in Business Theory at Operations and Information Systems department in Koç Graduate School of Business. She obtained her BSc in Computer Science and Engineering and MSc in Industrial Engineering from Sabanci University in 2015 and 2018, respectively. Her research interests include data analytics, decision science, data mining, sentimental analysis and operation management.
She is currently working on a qualitative data analysis project under supervision of Assist. Prof. Özge Karanfil.  The project focuses on understanding the fluctuations in cancer screening criteria by studying the interaction between influential groups.  Additionally, apart from research studies she is pursuing her skills in IT industry. She is a business analyst at TEB, Economy Bank of Turkey, which is the partner of BNP Paribas.

I am Ertaç Nebioğlu, I am head of branch at Koç University Health Sciences Library. I was previously working as a branch librarian at the Koç University School of Nursing Library. After graduating from Istanbul University Information and Document Management Department in 2012, I started working at Koç University School of Nursing Library in 2013. Since 2013, I have been supporting researchers in the field of Health Sciences in their studies. In addition, as I work as a health sciences liaison librarian, I am also helping with library training and library-related questions in this field. My research interests include outcomes assessment, evidence-based practices, information literacy instruction, information services, and digital librarianship. I am a member of EAHIL (European Association for Health Information and Libraries) and University and Research Librarians Association / Medicine and Health Sciences Platform.

Elif Gökçen Bozkurt is a 4th-year medical student at Koç University, School of Medicine. She was born in Mersin, in 1998. She completed primary education at Çankaya Primary School in 2012. Then, she completed high school education in Eyüp Aygar Science High School in 2016. She ranked 138th on the nationwide University Entrance Examinations, and she preferred to study medicine at Koç University. She worked with several researchers since the first year of medical school and gained different perspectives about working principles. Besides, she actively participates in different social clubs such as dance club, volunteers club, diving club, folk music club, and medical students’ club. Moreover, she is one of the biggest fans of literature, especially Russian literature, and she is a lover of nature.

Ecesu Çetin was born in Istanbul in 1998. She graduated from Kabataş Erkek Lisesi at 2017. She is currently doing a double degree with Medicine and Business Administration at Koç University. Zeynep Sena MUŞ is a 5th-year pharmacy student at University of Health Sciences. She was born in Germany. She graduated from Birikim Science High School in Istanbul. She has contributed to multiple research projects to improve her research skills. She actively in different clubs and social responsibility projects since her first year of the university. After her graduation, She aims to pursue a research career in health policy and pharmaceutical science. She is still the president of the Journal Club they founded at the faculty. Semiha Çakır

Semiha Çakır is a 5th grade medical student at Istanbul University. She is a former research trainee at Harvard Medical School. Semiha also spent time in Amman, Jordan for both language education and a bioethics project related to the brain death protocol in Jordan. Her research interests are public health, preventive medicine policies and bioethics.


Abhishek Chandramouli

Abhishek Chandramouli is a graduate student from MIT Sloan School of Management and HEC Paris, and a former member of our lab. Abhishek is a serial entrepreneur, change-maker and researcher! He has previously worked with Goldman Sachs, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), and NUS Singapore, and pioneered a project at United Nations to foster sustainable development by coaching startups through technological guidance, business plan modeling, IP, and operational tools to make ventures more sustainable in the digital world. He has also worked on research projects internationally with MIT, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Duke, ESSEC, and Koc University which were focused on applying the Internet of Things, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and System Dynamics to the healthcare industry. 

He is a current member of the advisory board at Corporate Gurukul– a leading ed-tech firm, based in Singapore & the Middle East, where he pioneers the next phase of growth and international expansion. He is also the co-founder of a skincare firm named Kesso, Japan, and a healthcare startup named KIKAI. He is now focused on strategizing and applying his technical expertise to solve sustainability problems by collaborating with both large organizations and start-ups.
